M.J. “Chip” Block, vice president
M.J. “Chip” Block, vice president, Sustainable PBC, is a former media executive, entrepreneur and consultant with nearly 40 years experience working with many companies, including Time, Inc. and The Washington Post Co. Long-known as a hands-on executive, his innovations in marketing and circulation tackled some of magazine publishing’s biggest challenges. His work has been published in Advertising Age, NY Times, Folio and Circulation Management magazines.
After graduating from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, in 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Lieutenant. He began his publishing career at Time, Inc. in 1971. He founded Games Magazine in 1977 and co-founded Applied Interactive Media in 1991, and USAPubs, Inc in 1999. Block has served on the Boards of Directors of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Straight Arrow Press (Rolling Stone Magazine), Graphic Computer Assn., Petersen Publishing, Inc., Ziff Davis Media, and Hudson News.
Block moved to Northern Palm Beach County in 2007 and became engaged in the County’s economic and business leadership. He was a member of the Scripps Florida Council from 2008 to 2014. He is an elected Jupiter Inlet Colony Commissioner and serves as alternate delegate on the PBC Water Resources Task Force. He joined the Board of Sustainable PBC “because it’s thanks to Karen Marcus’s leadership as Commissioner that we in northern Palm Beach County have green space to enjoy without urban sprawl. I’m eager to support her continued leadership in a new forum.”
