Sustainable Palm Beach County is an established nonpartisan, nonprofit citizen’s group working to ensure that our County’s future holds the best of what we cherish today.

Sustainable PBC isn’t anti-development. We are FOR smarter approaches to the County’s growth.

Founded by Karen Marcus and Lisa Interlandi, Sustainable Palm Beach County’s mission is to “promote the long-term sustainability of Palm Beach County’s environment, neighborhoods, and quality of life through preservation, enhancement, and restoration of its environmental and community resources.

Sustainable Palm Beach County (SPBC) is not anti-development. We are for smarter approaches to the County’s growth.  We champion best practices and planning for sustainability.

To preserve residents’ quality of life, the County must balance developers’ interests with strong health, safety, and environmental protections. Without that balance, we endanger the very assets that families cherish, tourists appreciate, and businesses seek when attracting employees.

Palm Beach County must balance developers’ interests with strong health, safety, and environmental protections…otherwise we destroy what residents and tourists value.

SPBC’s board represents deep knowledge and expertise in urban planning, environmental resource conversation, environmental law, communications, and municipal governance.  We engage with business and civic leaders to maintain and improve the quality of life in PBC. We promote sound decisions to safeguard water, protect our ecosystem, develop sustainable infrastructure, mitigate traffic congestion, and balance population density.

Residents who want PBC to preserve our unique environmental assets applaud SPBC’s initiatives.

Take one recent example: SPBC engaged with municipal leaders, area water-resources specialists and a developer embarking on a major project in Western PBC to reduce the number of homes and create optimal water flow in an environmentally sensitive area. SPBC also is guiding the developer in finding the most effective means of placing a significant parcel of the land it owns into conservation.

SPBC’s board members attend many regional Town Council and Commission meetings, Palm Beach County Commission meetings, as well as those of other drivers of development activity such as the North County Chamber.

Under Karen Marcus, SPBC follows the same collaborative, forthright and informed leadership style, and goals for “smart development” that made her an admired public servant in PBC.

Residents who want Palm Beach County to thrive economically and wish to preserve our unique environmental assets applaud Sustainable Palm Beach County’s initiatives and support its goals and reach. We hope we can count you among our supporters.
